Born in Mérida, Yucatán, on the 3rd January 1984, Christian Escalante Castillo is an artist specialising in figurative sculpture. He initially trained as an architect at the Universidad Marista de Mérida, working in a private architecture firm before establishing his own independent practice.
In 2013, he began exploring sculpture as a self-taught artist. That summer, he travelled to Europe for an intensive course at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, studying under Hywel Pratley, Sanne Van Tongeren, Kresten Smedemark, and the then-director of the sculpture programme, Robert Bodem. Upon returning to Mérida, he continued developing his sculptural work, gradually shifting his focus towards it.
While in Mexico, he undertook numerous private commissions, including human figures, portraits, animals, and heroic or mythological characters, which helped him refine his distinctive artistic voice.
In 2021, he relocated to England, where he now works from his studio and advances his career through exhibitions in UK galleries and institutional spaces.
In April 2025, he was selected for the “Spring Open Exhibition” by the Saint Ives Society of Artists in St Ives, Cornwall, featuring his piece “Gogmagog & Corineus”.
In October 2025, his work “Hanal Pixan” was chosen for the “Day of the Dead Art Exhibition” at the Mexican Embassy in London.
In November 2025, he was selected for the “Winter Open Exhibition” at the Penwith Gallery, organised by the Penwith Society of Artists, with his piece “Save us, save us”.
That same month, the St Ives Society of Artists selected him again for their “Christmas Open Exhibition”, showcasing his pieces “Last of the Knockers”, “Sunken Hopes” and “Emergence”.
His work delves into the human figure and narrative elements within the grand Western sculptural tradition, mindful of the interplay between form, space and the viewer, while retaining a deeply human essence.

Nació en la ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán, el 3 de enero de 1984. Es un artista centrado en la escultura figurativa. Se formó inicialmente como arquitecto en la Universidad Marista de Mérida, donde laboró en un despacho de arquitectura privado y posteriormente ejerció esta profesión de manera independiente.
En 2013 comenzó su práctica en escultura de manera autodidacta y, en el verano de ese mismo año, emprendió un viaje a Europa para tomar un curso intensivo de verano en la Florence Academy of Art, en Florencia, Italia, bajo la guía de Hywel Pratley, Sanne Van Tongeren, Kresten Smedemark y el entonces director de la carrera de escultura, Robert Bodem. Posteriormente regresó a Mérida para continuar con este arte y, paulatinamente, enfocarse más en él.
Durante su etapa en México realizó numerosos encargos privados —figuras humanas, retratos, animales y personajes heroicos o mitológicos—, consolidando su lenguaje personal.
En 2021 se estableció en Inglaterra, donde actualmente trabaja desde su estudio y desarrolla su carrera mediante exposiciones en galerías y espacios institucionales del Reino Unido.
En abril de 2025 fue seleccionado para la exhibición “Spring Open Exhibition” de la sociedad de artistas “Saint Ives Society of Artists”, en St. Ives, Cornwall, con su pieza “Gogmagog & Corineus”.

Su trabajo explora la figura humana y la narración dentro de la gran tradición escultórica occidental, consciente de la relación entre forma, espacio y el observador, sin perder el toque humano en su obra.
